The Laboratory of Narrative Research (LNR) is a teaching and research unit that is part of the School of English at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. It has been designed to bring together scholars and researchers from across the humanities, the social sciences and other scientific fields who have a special interest in the workings and the politics of narrative production.
Lab Director: Dr Effie Yiannopoulou
Representing different epistemological directions, three Laboratories of the School of Philology and one of the School of English Language and Literature join forces to organise a series of talks entitled ‘’Stories from the Archives.’’
The archives primarily safeguard texts of the past, written on various materials, in various languages, and accomplished by various means. As products of the private, collective and public life, the texts speak their truths through their content and materiality, evincing the origin of a particular mode of writing, the identity of the author and the culture embedded in that writing.
The archival collections allow the reconstruction of multiple narratives about the past which still matters to us. Material usages; definition of hands; chronology; acts of writing and reading; the author’s way of thinking and working methods; interaction with the environment and history; textual functions and transfigurations; political and military events; economics; human relations; quotidian stories; mindsets; social setting; worship; literature.
The talks will unravel these stories through evidence and archival collections, Greek and international, printed and digital, epigraphical, papyrological, of membrane and paper codes, manuscript, typewritten and in documentary form.
The talks will be in either Greek or English and will take place on Zoom, on Thursdays at 19:15, roughly once per month.
