Anthony Kitsios
άθος ή αθός;
The forlornness of speech
(solitary dialogues in conversation)
Translated by Maria Petasi
In plain view, but still unknown
the words we uttered that night
Silence, you know, is unmoving no matter how it moves
Born with the expectation of a dialogue
We die suspecting the opposite
As for the interim, ask me and we might learn
All the endurance of the words
a practice of ephemerality in the infinity
All of the earth’s languages a monograph superimposed
over the unknown and anything preceding
Only words can tell
where he begins
Now guess
ash or hush?
Guess the guesses it will take to tell the difference, I told him
three syllables are all I have left to shout
Withered or bloomed
Once the vowels fall into assonance,
and dissonant we fall, in a cacophony, almost in aphonia At least we will be speaking, still
