Digital Storytelling through Scratch Programming Language

Dr. Despina Schina
October 2021

Digital storytelling is a motivating instructional approach that connects learners to reading, writing, and digital literacy. Scratch, a programming language from the MIT Media Lab, is an effective tool for digital storytelling. This will be a hands-on workshop targeted to educators and in particular, teachers of language and literacy. In this workshop participants will get familiarized with digital storytelling and its benefits for the learning and teaching process. Participants will get acquainted with Scratch programming language – they will have the chance to experiment with Scratch programming blocks and learn how to program characters, change backgrounds, and add sound effects and voice-overs. Towards the end of the workshop, participants will present their own interactive digital stories and exchange feedback.
