Speech-to-text technologies are by and large gaining pace in multilingual communication and they become increasingly popular among professional translators. To address their emerging needs, new products and services are constantly being developed, often making use of tools such as Machine Translation. EU institutions invest on these technologies in order to facilitate communication with EU citizens.
This workshop aims at examining the current state of art in speech-to-text technologies, with reference to their use in EU institutions, and focuses on the needs arisen in minor languages such as Greek. It presents the range of available technologies and their affordances and is complemented by hands-on sessions, all spotlighting translation, language and communication professionals, while reaching out to academics and students alike and anyone interested in this upcoming modality.
The Translating Europe workshops are organised by Directorate-General for Translation representatives in the EU Member States, often in cooperation with universities of the European Master’s in Translation.
The workshops are part of the Translating Europe project, created to bring together translation stakeholders in Europe. They complement the yearly Forum organised in Brussels and consist of smaller scale events, targeted at specialised audiences within national translation communities.
