The pilot course consisted of a combination of conventional classes with the regular trainer and virtual interventions by professional translators from the European Parliament.

Brief Description

A pilot course in EU translation taking place at the School of English, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in collaboration with Multilingualism Unit and the Greek Translation Unit of the European Parliament. The pilot course consisted of a combination of conventional classes with the regular trainer and virtual interventions by professional translators from the European Parliament.

Overall aims of the initiative: to foster collaboration between the academia and DG TRAD; to train students interested in becoming translation professionals for working with/for the European Parliament (EP) while making optimum use of Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) through a series of webinars.

Specific aims of the pilot study:

  • to test
    • feasibility
    • design
    • suitable content
    • gradually increasing interaction
    • tools (webinar software, training and research tools) and technical requirements;
  • to provide a blueprint for future use by EP Translation Units and Universities.
