The seminar aims to provide a step-by-step guide to using some of the corpus query tools offered by the Sketch Engine. Focusing on the concept of “co-occurrence patterns”, we will first try to disentangle the complex web of phraseology and then we will use Sketch Engine to discover patterns. The tasks to be discussed are related to vocabulary issues such as near-synonymy, polysemy, metaphoricity, etc. Lastly, suggestions for developing corpus-based activities will be provided.
